Dan Bedore's San Diego Kayaking, 1998-2003

From 1998 to 2003 I did quite a bit of kayaking out of the San Diego, California area. I learned to surf river kayaks in ocean waves, and occasionally took the river kayak to the Kern River to dabble in the rapids.

Many times we headed down to Mexico to paddle in the waters south of Ensenada for the weekend. You could paddle to the Todos Santos Islands and camp, or car camp at Arbolitos. Along the coast, there were Bufadoras, or blowholes, which were caves that would spit out plumes of spray when waves entered them. We would also 'Rock Garden,' or try to paddle over reefs when the crests of waves would flood them.

Greg didn't quite make it over in time!
Judy planned some Christmas trips to sea kayak in Baja California, in 1999 from Bahia de los Angeles, to Isla Coronado and around Punta el Alacran. Later, the trip was to Bahia Tortuga, and its barrier islands. These were great 10 day trips, with plenty of wilderness to explore, and good fellowship.
